Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) offer self-funded medical and dental plans a network of “preferred providers” where discounts and specific practice criteria are met resulting in savings to the plans that have contracted with them. 

Plan designs are written to provide higher benefit payments when members seek care from these preferred providers.  SOMI has never required the use of a single national PPO for any plan, but instead finds the best PPO for each geographic location in which a company has employees.  SOMI is continuously evaluating its PPO partners to ensure the most aggressive discounts, cost effective clinical practices, access fees and administrative abilities.

In addition, SOMI has been successful in negotiating direct PPO discount contracts when a care system or provider falls outside the plan’s PPO vendor.  Examples of some of SOMI’s direct contracts are with the Mayo, Olmsted Medical Clinics and Minute Clinic along with various other Hospital and Clinic organziations in Minnesota.
